What is Compline?
In Monasteries, Compline is the final office of the Liturgy of the Hours, sung before sleep. Originating as early as the mid-fourth century, it is a contemplative Office that emphasizes spiritual peace. Within the context of contemporary society, Compline leads us into silence, solitude, and reflection: spiritual values that nourish the soul and create the possibility of true community.
Compline happens at St. Luke’s every first Monday monthly at 8:00 PM. Led by a choir, those souls present pray in the dark holding a candle. Psalms, canticles, and hymns are sung, along with some said prayers and moments for silent prayer and reflection. Silence is held at the close of the service.
The Compline Choir needs more voices. Please consider joining the choir, regardless of your religious affiliations or lack-there-of. Rehearsals are on Fridays from 5:30-6:15 PM at St. Luke’s. This is a great beginner-friendly choir opportunity.
